As I've probably shared before, I'm an English teacher, too (former, actually), and though we were taught in grad school that AAVE is a legitimate form of English, as you know, no doubt, that message doesn't translate to real life. Standardized tests, curriculum requirements, etc. do not make room for it.

It's very frustrating and one of millions of examples of how our educational system is not inclusive or meeting the needs of all students.
