Fairness and equality cannot exist in a legal system that was designed by an unjust system. We already have ample evidence that courtrooms and policemen do not exist in vacuums where they somehow magically transcend the hierarchical laws of oppression. Just look at our prison system and who is in them. Perhaps our legal system strives to be fair, but everywhere we turn, we see evidence that it is not, and it cannot be, so long as we live in a society where we aren’t all consistently treated as equals on every front.
