He didn’t mean it literally. He meant it to warn me that she would continue to target me, specifically, and that I should take it very seriously. He wasn’t dismissing her behavior, either. We had no other choice but deal with it, at that time. I don’t know what it’s like today, but at the time, school districts were financially penalized for not keeping butts in the seats. So we could not give students real consequences like suspension or expulsion unless they committed physical violence. All we could do was hand out detentions, but that’s not a real consequence in high school. As such, verbal abuse and bad behavior was just something we had to deal with.
