He was going through a spiritual and emotional crisis at the time that led him to decide to become born again right before he left me. He was entrenched in the misogyny of his new religious beliefs and yes, used them as an excuse to break things off with me. Underneath it all, though, I honestly don’t think he was a jerk — just someone who was very lost and scared.
