How the Trump Administration Solved the Mystery of the Male Loneliness Crisis
Now we know exactly how this happened…but what are we going to do about it?
It’s been eight years since the male loneliness crisis was brought to our attention. In that time, it’s felt like the topic has resurfaced with regularity, and yet seemingly no progress has been made.
In fact, I’m not even convinced we know what we’re talking about when we use the term “men’s loneliness crisis.” Some people are talking about the fact that men do not have a friendship network. Some people are talking about how men feel pressure not to express their emotions and therefore suffer from a lack of emotionally intimate relationships. And many — particularly men — are talking about how men simply aren’t getting enough sex, an issue that’s apparently collectively quantifiable.
Not only do we not seem to know what the actual problem is, but we don’t seem to understand the cause or the solution, other than to cast vague — or not so vague — suspicion and blame at women who allegedly aren’t being supportive enough, don’t show enough care, and are not willing to step in and help.
Anger and frustration seem to be growing around this issue while clarity is diminishing in equal measure. And though no problem so…
