I absolutely agree and I struggle with the usage of the word for that very reason. Personally, I don’t find the word “fetish” to have negative connotations, but I know it DOES have negative connotations for many, and as such, I’d rather avoid using it. But since the definition of that word fits my own feelings about it pretty accurately, I choose to use it with pride. Own it. :) But I agree with you — I don’t think it’s really a fetish so much as a normal “thing” and that we don’t see it that way because we’ve been taught it’s gross, wrong, impure, whatever.
