I already addressed the barriers to entry in this piece, and I don’t agree that most writers are willing to work for free because there are bigger writers out there who make a lot of money. That’s not what I see in the industry — so many of us have worked for free because that’s often the only chance we have at publication. Working for free is an expectation of this industry.
