I have heard this many times, too. This IS a big deal by patriarchal standards. Because not that long ago, a man could beat his wife and cheat on her and still be considered a good man and good husband. When someone is your property, all bets are off. It’s taking a long time for us to evolve out of that mentality, and as such, there are still men who think not being violent and not cheating are meeting the standard of “good husband.”
