I honestly suspect there is a lot of one-upmanship in all this. Mothers are at the top of the female dominance hierarchy and I think what comes with that privilege is often (not always) the cultural conditioning to punch down.

And yes, I often ask that: Do you think the government steps in and pays all my bills just because I opted out of parenthood? It’s HILARIOUS that anyone would think such a thing!
