I remember in high school, I used to debate with my friends about abortion and other women’s rights issues (many of them were very conservative) and we had such interesting talks and always remained friends even after passionate discussions. We were only teenagers and we did it so well. It’s not as easy these days — honestly, not even for me. I can feel the effects of years of being an online presence and being constantly exposed to angry or downright hateful comments. My nervous system trips into fight or flight much faster these days.
