I think her shame around the mom thing was more about understanding that society sees women like us, who rely on our mothers or sisters or friends instead of husbands, as failures. But heck yes, I think it’s so lucky to have other supports — and god knows, when I lived with a partner, he was not there for me when I was sick, so being coupled is definitely not a guarantee that we won’t still be alone in our time of need.
