I thought I had commented here a couple days ago, and apparently I haven't!

So first of all, I am very sorry that this has been your experience. I'm so glad you are speaking out about it and I hope this continued conversation pushes for change.

I absolutely agree that we need to stop expecting female writers to coddle their readers.

I also think the entire publishing industry needs an overhaul. In the fiction world, with smaller, niche publications, I've found it just as frustrating because so many of those are owned by white, male millennials and many of them have zero interest in work that centers female characters, particularly Gen X women (aka, over 40).

There are so many "gatekeepers" in the publishing world that you could argue there's a "perspective monopoly" going on.
