I thought of this a lot as I wrote this piece. I know a LOT of women who were relentlessly abused by their mothers and this narrative that mothers are saintly beings who hold the secret to human love is, I suspect, very hurtful for the daughters of abusive mothers. As you said, it completely erases their experience.
