I was a hardcore bike commuter for about 10 years - and I mean HARDCORE. All hours of night and day. Snow, rain, sleet. Ten degrees to 100. I loved it. It was hard, but I loved it.

I have since given it up, as I live on the far end of town, and would have to cross a highway to get anywhere I need to go, which is increasingly unsafe here. Over the years, I faced worse and worse harassment from drivers and road-ragey behaviors that I thought might end up with me in the hospital. I'd still risk it if I lived closer to town and on the west side of the highway, but my location is definitely a huge barrier at this point.
