If this incident doesn't highlight what is so deeply wrong in our country, I don't know what it'll take to get people's attention. And the idea of "wait" - why should anyone have to wait for justice? For fair treatment. How easy it is to throw around that word when one isn't in a circumstance in which they would have to deal with that. Twelve months later...there shouldn't have been waiting before and there shouldn't be waiting now.
