If you’re asking me to speak on what you perceive to be mental health issues of male celebrities, I’m not sure why. Even if I was their therapist, it would be unethical for me to comment on the matter.
If you’re asking me to agree with you that Madonna has mental health issues, I will not — again, unless we’re on her medical team, we wouldn’t know, and if we were, it wouldn’t be ethical to comment.
But to answer what I think you’re asking in the most general terms: I believe mental health issues surrounding what we see in the mirror and what we do to our bodies in response to what we see, are not just the product of misogyny, but all the forms of oppression in our culture. Racism, ageism, homophobia, femmephobia, ableism… I could go on, but you get the picture. And this means yes, it can affect everyone, regardless of gender. But just because that’s true doesn’t remove the factor of misogyny in this issue. It is all intersectional.
