LOL, you can ALWAYS blame your parents!! ;) Just kidding, but it’s so interesting that we had similar experiences in that sense — my parents were very liberal but they sent us to strict Christian schools and that’s where we were taught all this shame around sexuality. I think I was able to avoid taking some of that on because my parents sometimes spoke out against the messages we recited to them and partly because there was this sense in me that I knew God, already, and I rejected some of the messages they taught me. Still screwed me up for a lifetime, but made it easier to abandon some of the most harmful stuff as I got older.
