Oh hell no. I couldn’t care less about what “successful” means in a man — or rather, traditional connotations with that word. I could’ve gone on and written a whole other article on that, but that would distract from my main point. By this, I mean simply that I was taught to see strong, masculine, powerful, wealthy men as the most powerful people in society and that I, as a woman, was unworthy of their attention. I learned, of course, that these qualifiers mean NOTHING in terms of “success,” and I’m learning that I’m not unworthy of anyone’s attention just because I’m a woman.
I love your point about the cultural assumptions we make about people’s worth based on their money or appearance. So true.
