Stop Arguing About “Divisive Politics” — This Is About Basic Human Rights
If you — or your political party — think human rights are debatable, you’ve got some serious soul-searching to do
It’s not “politics” when it’s a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body. It’s not about religion. Not about values. Not about morality.
This is about women being allowed to decide what happens to their bodies. Women being respected as full, living human beings who have the right to exist and the right to thrive, more so than a single-celled fertilized egg inside them that has no limbs, no organs, no face, and cannot exist outside the human body.
If this was about men, there would be no question. His right to make his own decisions about his own body without the supervision of or interference from the government is sacrosanct in this culture.
This isn’t about politics.
It’s not “politics” when we’re talking about a person’s right to experience their sexuality with another consulting adult in the way they choose. When we’re talking about being able to marry the person you love. When we’re talking about how you see yourself, what name you choose to go by, what gender feels right to you, and how you exist in your own body.
