Thank you for this extremely thoughtful comment. To answer you first question: I don’t know, but I think it starts in this — conversation. Exploration. Holding space for one another.
That is my great frustration in all of this — that I don’t know what to do and I don’t think anyone else does, either. It’s uncharted territory, for sure. But I do know there is SO much healing in just allowing people to air their grievances, speak their truth, and be given acknowledgment of their pain and even, better yet, to receive apologies for what happened.
I worked in the field of restorative justice for four years and I truly believe in its power to transform both the victim and the perpetrator. There is so much potential for healing in that. I don’t know how to implement that in the bigger picture, but I believe that it’s something we should aspire to do, for the good of all.
Again thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and open-mindedness. And thank you for your compassion about the school bullying and assault. I’m sorry for what you had to go through, as well. It’s a terrible thing to endure.
