There is a second part to this story that wouldn’t have fit here (perhaps it will become a follow-up piece) and that’s that this isn’t, of course, men’s fault. (To a point.)

Men were taught this, too. They’re just repeating what they’ve learned.

It does become their responsibility at some point, however. We all need to examine what we’ve been taught. We all need to question why we believe the things we believe. We all need to recognize where we are being hypocrites and address that.

At some point, men need to listen to themselves complaining about women not initiating sex enough but then recognizing that it makes them uncomfortable when we do what they want. I know that’s hard, as well, but it’s hard for women, too, and the moment we start facing this discomfort in honesty and vulnerability, that’s when we can start to change it.
