This comment section is like my worst nightmare come to life. LOL. I try to avoid it but your comment seemed so much more pleasant than some of the others. ;)
So, I see my words did not come off as intended for about half the people who read it. I agree completely with what you are saying.
My point was just that even when I write about racism or sexism, even when I say “some men,” or “many white people” or other such things, I’m still called out again and again for making generalizations. People still demand that I make exclusionary statements like “not all men” and “not all white people.” Even when I say something like that in one paragraph, if I don’t repeat throughout the article, I get criticized for being too general.
To me, this is just distraction tactics from people who don’t want to face what’s going on or who don’t want to cop to their part in it.
I definitely do not condone saying “all men this” or “all white people that” or anything to that degree. That kind of generalization is far beyond what I’m talking about in this article. It’s not helpful, it’s not true, and it invites further generalizations.
Anyways…that didn’t seem to be the core message people took away from this, but that’s what I meant it to be.
Your point is very well made and again, I totally agree. :) ❤
