This is a VAST minority. Of course there were some women who broke the mold. That’s always true in any circumstance. But that doesn’t change the reality for the majority of women of that time. It’s a fact, for instance, that women couldn’t get a credit card in their own name until 1974, for heaven’s sake. Are you really going to argue that housewives of the 1950s were liberated and could do anything they wanted? I mean, come on.
