I used to think racism was either/or - and I knew it was wrong, so I assumed I and everyone I loved was not racist.
But I've begun to understand it as a spectrum and a system of intoxication (for lack of a better word). All white people exist on this spectrum because we were born into a racist society. And we can move on that spectrum with the awareness that racism is within us - we can challenge ourselves to detox from it every day.
It's not either/or. It's a lifelong process of detoxing.
