This is such an insightful comment. Thank you so much for sharing this. I sense the truth of it. But it makes me wonder how we got to this point. When did we decide that we were going to keep forcing marriage to work despite the fact that we don’t really use it for the same purpose anymore? Now, in the modern world when our life expectancy is so much higher than it used to be and we go through so many changes that weren’t always a part of human life and we expect to stick together for 50 or more years? And then we feel guilty when we can’t live up to such an impossible expectation and so we engage in behavior that’s ultimately unkind to everyone involved to assuage the guilt. I wish we could reevaluate how we practice marriage so we could avoid some of this. ❤
