“Valuing a fit body” is only a value when it pertains to the body one inhabits. There’s no such thing as “valuing” when it comes to someone else’s body. That is asserting control over someone else’s body. That’s not a value. It’s simply a desire to want another person to fulfill your standards of beauty and attractiveness.

And yes, a man can desire whatever he desires — but that doesn’t mean anyone is required to fulfill that desire.

This kind of mindset isn’t love. Men who expect their wives/girlfriends to maintain a certain type of appearance to please them do not love these women. Love isn’t about what size jeans someone wears. This is about control.

I’d find it interesting to see how justified men would feel about this subject if THEY were the ones who spent 9 months gestating babies, and months or years breastfeeding, and endured the often permanent changes that pregnancy and motherhood makes to a body. I doubt they’d be so eager to please a female partner who felt they had “let themselves go.”
