When I was 10, my teacher, at a private Christian school, told us why God created AIDS. I will not repeat his theory here — it was hateful and homophobic. But I remember that even at that age, I leaned back in my seat, crossed my arms over my chest and thought, “Nope. That’s bullshit.”

Our sexuality is fluid and beautiful and God-given. There’s no sin in it, no matter who we choose to love.
