Yes, absolutely. Going through perimenopause and not being able to talk about my cycle is a huge problem, as it is for many women who have issues in that department or are going through major transitions. I’m not afraid of doctors having my medical information — I’m afraid of the government poking its nose into them, which they are already seeking to do and have done in some states.

In states that are criminalizing abortion, HIPAA no longer protects women’s medical records and they can be searched in order to prosecute those abortions. From there, it is not a long journey to being subjected to random searches to identify women who don’t have predictable cycles and to investigate them to see if they have had an abortion. And again, as that snowballs, blue states will not be safe, either. Each precedent we set allows for more intrusions into our privacy and more potential for prosecution.

We are already in a circumstance in which women and trans people cannot safely access proper healthcare.
