There was a shooting here in the PNW last autumn, and everyone described the shooter as severely depressed and abusive during his entire high school career. Part of me wants to scream: Why the hell didn’t anyone help him if they ALL noticed?! But I also realize, it doesn’t matter if he couldn’t afford therapy, and add to that overworked, underpaid school staff who don’t always have the capacity to intervene, and I could go on…

We need extensive mental health care provided for everyone for free. AND a culture that isn’t so goddamn abusive, causing us to HAVE mental health problems in the first place!
