Your comment about love on TV is right on. I’ve been thinking a lot about how movies and TV have influenced our beliefs about love and so many of the messages we learned were so toxic! Great point.

When I say “patriarchy,” I mean our social structures, our culture. I’m not talking about family structure. I think when we call certain families more matriarchal, we really just mean that women are seen as the leaders in the family, but they run the families just like a patriarchal hierarchy, because that’s what they know. True matriarchy is egalitarian and not based on a dominance hierarchy.
